UPDATED: Shooter in custody after targeting BC RCMP detachment

The hunt for an active shooter in Vanderhoof, BC after gunshots were fired at the RCMP detachment in the 100 block of Columbia Street has come to an end.

Mounties reported gunfire at 12:16 p.m. when a lone male carrying a long gun began “targeting the RCMP detachment and then continuing to drive around the area.”

An emergency alert was issued with the public asked to stay inside or shelter in place.

“Lock your doors and refrain from leaving your home or business at this time,” said a release from Vanderhoof RCMP.

“All others need to avoid the downtown area and follow all police directions or restrictions.”

The suspect was driving a white Ford pick-up truck with an extended cab.

Front-line officers and specialized units were deployed and the suspect was subsequently arrested and the emergency alert lifted.
